Romance Reinvented.

book world camaraderie

I spent today at a book signing in San Antonio, Texas. I missed these events. I missed being around my people.

Book people understand what it’s like to be lost in a book. What it’s like to spend hours between the pages. They understand choosing reading over any other activity. And specifically, romance readers understand the genre and what’s so fun about it—the swooning, the naughty bits, the emotions.

I always think it’s such an interesting dynamic to be at a signing because many of us are bookish introverts. (Not all, of course.) But running with the theory that most of us are more into books than people, talking with people can be … challenging. Interacting in real life is an exercise in being social, when maybe we aren’t all that social naturally. Plus, there’s the whole match people up with their Facebook profile thing going on, too, which can be interesting and lead to awkward moments.

Worth every minute.

I love signings because I know that we like the same things—at least we have the same interest in reading. I love it that people understand—and I feel like they understand me.s

At any rate, I enjoyed the day immensely and will be flying home tomorrow.
