not burdensome. sexy.

I listened to Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert recently, and thought it was lovely inspiration to do creative work.

The thing that got to me was about the mindset of the slog of creative work. 

There are many parts of the writing process that are hard or tedious. Take your pick: the middle. Coming up with the perfect line. Editing. Writing the blurb.

But.

“Don’t think of it all as burdensome. Think of it as sexy.” Elizabeth Gilbert

Gilbert likened creative work to an affair, where you’re so excited to get back to it that you rearrange your schedule in impossible ways to make sure to do it.

I LOVE this attitude adjustment. I get to sneak off and play with my manuscript. It’s not burdensome. It’s sexy.

(It really is, too, lol.)

If there’s a part of the creative work you don’t care to do, think of it as sexy. See what happens.
